Gutter Installation Cost Calculator

Estimate gutter installation or replacement cost by linear feet, material, stories, downspouts, guards and removal.

Estimate a 2026 gutter installation or replacement budget from gutter length, material, home height, roofline complexity, downspouts, guards, removal and project allowances.

Budgeting estimate only. Published national ranges overlap and local contractor quotes can vary substantially. Measure the roof edges that actually receive gutters rather than using floor area as the primary input.
Use 0 if unknown. Enter +10 for a 10% higher local market or -10 for 10% lower.

Use this gutter installation cost calculator to build a planning range from the linear feet of roof edge that needs gutters, your material choice, home height, roofline complexity and optional project extras. The result is a budgeting estimate rather than a contractor quote, because local labor, access, drainage design and hidden fascia damage can materially change the final price.

The calculator separates the base installed gutter allowance from downspouts, guards, old-gutter removal and user-entered repair or permit costs so you can see what is moving the estimate.

What Drives Gutter Installation Cost?

Linear footage is the main quantity input. Angi’s 2026 national guide reports professional gutter installation around $4 to $40 per linear foot across materials and project types. This Old House reports a wider professional range of roughly $12 to $62 per linear foot when comparing material systems and project conditions. The spread is why this calculator returns a range instead of a single false-precision number.

Material matters substantially. Current published guides place vinyl toward the low end, aluminum in the common mid-range, and copper or zinc much higher. HomeAdvisor’s 2026 aluminum guide reports about $7 to $12 per linear foot, while its copper guide reports roughly $18 to $40 per linear foot installed.

How the Material Presets Work

The presets are planning baselines assembled from current 2026 cost guides. Vinyl uses the current Angi project range normalized to its typical 150-foot example, aluminum uses HomeAdvisor’s published installed range, and steel, copper and zinc use current published per-foot ranges. If you already have a local installed rate, choose Custom installed rate and enter your own low and high values.

The calculator applies transparent planning adjustments for story height and roofline/access complexity. These are not claims about a specific contractor’s pricing. Use the local adjustment field when you have better regional information.

Downspouts, Guards and Replacement Work

Downspouts are priced separately from the main gutter run in this tool. Angi’s 2026 guide lists common vinyl/aluminum downspouts around $5 to $8 per linear foot, steel around $9 to $12, and copper around $17 to $20. The calculator multiplies the number of downspouts by their average vertical length.

For professional gutter guards, HomeAdvisor currently reports a broad range around $6 to $13 per linear foot for many systems. Branded or premium guards can cost much more. Replacement projects also include a $1 to $2 per-foot removal allowance based on HomeAdvisor’s 2026 replacement guide.

Measure Gutter Length Carefully

Measure only the roof edges that will actually receive gutters. Do not automatically use the entire building perimeter, and do not treat floor square footage as gutter footage. A simple rectangular home may be easy to measure from the ground, while multiple rooflines, dormers and additions require separate runs.

Downspout quantity is also a drainage-design decision, not just a cost input. Placement depends on roof area, rainfall intensity, gutter size and outlet capacity. A cost calculator cannot replace proper drainage sizing.

Why Your Contractor Quote Can Differ

Actual pricing can change with market labor rates, seamless fabrication, gutter profile and gauge, steep or restricted access, staging or lift equipment, fascia rot, custom corners, drainage extensions and warranty scope. The calculator is most useful for comparing project scenarios before you request local bids.

Methodology and Sources

The 2026 planning ranges are based on current cost guidance from Angi, HomeAdvisor and This Old House. The calculator keeps add-ons visible and allows custom rates because these publishers use different project definitions and their ranges do not always include identical scope. Always compare contractor estimates using the same material, footage, downspout, guard, removal and repair assumptions.
